This is so not cool.

The other night I caught a teaser for the 10pm news that said there were dumpsters in Arlington Texas filled with library books. Now, as a patron of the Arlington Central Library, I was SHOCKED! The Central location is a large one. Its not like the building is bursting full of books. How many books are too many for a library that they have to throw them out?! Why is it everytime I look for a specific book there is only ONE copy in the seven branches in the city? According to the news article, out of date books are sold in a biannual sale by a charity and the ones not sold or are deemed "unlikely" to sell are scrapped. The question is, they could not come up with a better alternative than just filling dumpsters? The reporters went on to contact a resale book shop that said it would have been happy, and could have paid for, the unwanted books. Also the Goodwill was contacted and stated that not only would they take them, they would come and pick them up, which seemed to be a problem for the charity because according to them, most of their volunteers are elderly and transporting the books would be a problem. Apparently not a problem to run them all out to the dumpster. I am dissapointed in the library. Way to go dudes. Way to go.
